Gasoline or other gas recalls are very rare, as years go by without any gas being recalled. However, a gas recall has just been issued by British Petroleum, for areas of the states of Illinois and Indiana.
Gasoline recall at BP
BP, or British Petroleum, has evidently decided to mess up again, even after the huge mistake of spilling oil into the ocean. There are a lot of motorists in northeast Indiana and northwest Illinois dealing with polluted gasoline that is causing difficulties. There is a fuel recall because of contaminated fuel from a BP refinery, according to AutoBlog.
Rough starts or a failure to start is being reported by some motorists, according to ABC Chicago.
AutoBlog explained that the fuel in question is regular unleaded-grade fuel and came from one storage tank. It went to a variety of distributers, such as Costco, Meijer, Thornton's, and Luke Oil. One consumer had to get his fuel lines drained and all injectors cleaned while replacing spark plugs. That cost him $1,200 to do.
Fixes not covered by warranties
If you went to a Valpariso Mazda dealer and got your car fixed after contaminated fuel was in it, it will all be out of pocket; warranties do not cover that. All consumers can get reimbursed for "fuel-related repairs" since British Petroleum guarantees its fuel though, according to AutoBlog.
It makes people really upset to have vehicle loans payments on a car they are working on because of polluted fuel. The good news is, though, that there is hardly ever fuel recalls for contaminated gas, and almost no gas is ever contaminated.
According to Minnesota Public Radio News, there was a refinery in Minnesota that had to issue a recall for gasoline a few years ago. There was more than the 10 percent ethanol allowed in the fuel, and this was causing a lot of issues. There have been some other instances of fuel recalls too, including one in August 2009 in Melbourne, Australia. According to TheMotorReport.com.au, the incident was similar to the BP fuel recall with contaminated gasoline.
Not an issue with motor vehicle fuel typically
Gasoline recalls for gasoline or diesel don't occur too often. Most fuel recalls are for fuels other than those used in motor vehicles and those are still uncommon. For instance, one fuel recall was for a gel fuel used in decorative torches and comparable devices, according to CBS LA, which was issued in June of this year.
It is really rare to see a fuel recall, such as a propane recall. They are seen very infrequently. WeMakeItSafer.com lists all fuel and fuel recalls on it, according to the consumer product safety commission info, and it showed only thee propane recalls during the last 12 years. They are all very uncommon.
