While it might be true that if you miss school, you skip out, a Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram Victorville, California, wants young motorists to know that they may skip much more. According to reports, Victorville Motors 90 miles northeast of LA has a program known as It's a Gas to Go to Class, a $75,000 annual charitable give-away that infuses $1 million into the local school system. Not only has the plan boosted sales, but it rewards students with ideal attendance - as well as their schools - with valuable prizes that contain two brand new 2013 Dodge Dart automobiles that are obtained via auction. Considering that work is a factor in California's state financing of schools, this dealership program is clearly a big deal.
Asking for ideal attendance
Apparently, the It's a Fuel to Go to Class plan has been very successful. Not only has Victorville Motors seen a massive increase in the number of cars sold in the last 18 months as a result of plan, it has also seen an enormous increase in perfect work at participating schools. The schools have also seen a huge increase in academic performance and overall attendance.
"I had no idea how successful it would be," said 47-year-old Victorville Motors dealer principal Tim Watts.
A business that prides itself for its community involvement, Victorville Motors has elevated funds and sponsored events for several local organizations. When a local parent asked if the car dealership had considered giving away an automobile, a light bulb went off in Watts' mind.
"It wasn't just about us. We wanted to do it as a multi-layered approach and an outreach that includes other local businesses," said Watts.
Not just good for business
The Dodge Dart marketing has been successful for Victorville Motors' sales (850 new and 756 used automobiles sold in 2012) and for the local school district. Before the plan, approximately 15 to 20 children at the district's three high schools had perfect attendance. Reports indicate that a "few hundred" are now without a blemish with regards to attendance. Six area school districts and 12 high schools are currently involved in the contest.
Pupils are motivated towards perfect attendance with supplemental awards such as gift cards. Pupils who maintain an ideal work record will be able to participate in the Dodge Dart raffle with golden tickets they are given. The winner's parents will generally get the car if the winner is under 18 since minors are not permitted to win automobiles in the state of California. This is how the raffle works, and it has obviously been effective.
