The Importance Of Coating Your Car Chassis With Protective Paint

One of the game changers in the world economy was the invention of cars. This engineering marvel totally transformed the transportation industry to the core. It took over the main role as the fast bearer of goods and services all across the nations of the earth. The train was fast but could only load and unload in stations. The car can practically get anywhere. Its main frame is protected by chassis paint.

A car would not be one without the perfect combination of components that make it whole. These parts are well organized and complement each other to make the vehicle operate. Except for a few models, almost all cars have a metal mainframe that holds up the various elements. This base structure is mostly of fabricated high grade steel which is strong and durable.

The steel manufacturing and auto production industries got together during the mid eighties to come up with steel that would meet the requirement of car manufacturers. Extensive research was done in the area of paint adhesion property, strength to weight ratio, and strength and texture. Coming up with a light material with a comparable strength of metals was difficult to achieve.

The main frame structure of vehicles is also composed of several pieces that are joined together. The process by which the whole frame is fabricated and joined together has a significant impact on its capability to withstand corrosion and rust. One standard process is making available some access points where protective paint and coating can be applied.

These frames are tested for corrosion resistance during the design phase. Prototypes are made and tested in laboratories which use samples sections of the frame and the frame itself. It also is field tested in a series of activities that simulate real road conditions. The underbody structure can also be damaged as much as the exterior but mostly this is not readily visible.

Oxidation is the effect of water or air when it comes into contact with metals like steel. If its effect on a metallic underbody frame is left uncorrected, this can result in the rapid deterioration of the structure. Like all metallic elements, steel is not exempt from the chemical reaction that causes corrosion and rust. This reaction eats up the substance by oxidation.

This structural component has to be protected to preserve its strength and integrity in holding up the other components. These are mostly painted using two methods. The first one is called the hot wax method. This is a compound of thermoplastic elements that is mixed with a solvent. The second one is the electrocoating method using paint with high adhesion qualities.

The brush and paint sprayers are the implements used in painting the underbody foundation of a vehicle which is already operational for quite some time. This second coating provides additional protection especially to those areas that have already undergone repairs. These areas are the most susceptible to corrosion and rust if not propertied coated with protective paint.

Bringing your car to a shop for servicing is good but often owners focus only on having it washed and cleaned. Some are conscious of having the undersides cleaned but mostly it is only cosmetic, just plainly removing dirt and grime using water jet spraying. Some do have the presence of mind to have grease points checked, but most never inspect the chassis and its condition.
