Supercar manufacturing firms have not really gotten the memo concerning high gas costs, even if a lot of people are feeling the squeeze. High performance green automobiles are becoming more accessible, but traditional high-end sports vehicles are still being made with complete disregard to the price at the pump. A person who can afford a Ferrari can still afford to fill it with fuel.
More than the Bugatti at McLaren
AutoWeek states that the sports vehicle company McLaren is working on a car that will come out in 2014. The MP4-12C was released by the business known for releasing the fastest road car in the world, the F1. A 5-liter motor with about 800 horsepower will be in the car that McLaren is now working on. The vehicle is anticipated to cost $500,000 for anybody that is interested. It should go 0 to 200 miles per hour faster than the Bugatti Veyron can with 2.8 seconds have to go from 0 to 60.
The work accessible at General Motors
To be able to get a new Corvette, General Motors is putting $131 million into getting a better version of Chevrolet's sports car adding about 250 new jobs, reports CNN. In Bowling Green, Ky., a lot of jobs will open up at the General Motors plant where the Corvette has been made since 1981. GM will be producing the new Corvette there. Information on the car isn't available yet. There still is not a release date either. Popular Mechanics reports that Chevrolet is considering a new Camaro for 2012 with ZL1 Camaro as the name. The ZL1 will have the same motor that the Cadillac CTS-V has. It produces more than 550 horsepower with its 6.2L V-8 engine.
Lean, mean and green
The environment isn't the top priority for auto automobile makers for sure. Still, some of these auto makers want to help just a little bit. Hybrid vehicle engineers are being interviewed by McLaren. It hopes to create more "green" cars. Porsche, according to USA Today, is currently taking orders for the 918 Spyder, a plug-in hybrid supercar that will go from 0 to 60 in 3.1 seconds, tops out at 199 miles an hour and will drive three more miles on electric power alone than the upcoming plug-in Prius hybrid will. It gets 78 miles per gallon in it too. By 2015, Ferrari is hoping to have hybrid versions of all its automobiles while already having released a hybrid version of the 599 in 2010, the Daily Mail reports. The 599 HY-KERS is the name of the car that can get up to 25 miles per hour while going 200 miles in one hour of driving. It has the same V-12 motor too. By 2015, Lamborghini plans to have a hybrid out. It announced this in 2009, Popular Science reports. It seems even the worst automobiles are going green. Everyone wants to save the environment.
